Thanks to Volkswagen attention to detail, servicing a Polo is pretty straightforward... so long as you don't want to check the power steering fluid, as Richard Gunn reports... THE FOURTH GENERATION of Volkswagen's small but very successful Polo debuted on sale in early 2002, following its launch at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show. Previous generations of the car, originally born in 1975, had established a solid reputation for the supermini, so this Type 9N variant had big boots to fill - which it managed to do pretty well. It shared its platform with the contemporary SEAT Ibiza and Cordoba, plus the Skoda Fabia. The Polo though was particularly marked out by its quad headlamps, giving it more than a marked family resemblance to the Lupo.
