Serum fructosamine: a reference interval for a heterogeneous canine population.

The serum fructosamine level was measured in 89 healthy dogs (44 males, 45 females) of different breeds, 1- to 12-year-old, from Corrientes city, Argentina, using a nitroblue tetrazolium photo colorimetric method. The calculated reference range was192.6 to 357.4 鎚ol/litre (mean 275.0 鎚ol/litre). No significant differences attributable to sex or age were observed. The fructosamine values in serum from 3 diabetic dogs (433, 556 and 663 鎚ol/litre) exceeded the upper limit of the reference range. It is concluded that this reference interval is wider than those previously reported in less heterogeneous groups of dogs and in those from other geographical zones.
