Transpotec 2019 unveils novelties and new market developments in Italy and abroad

Italy - The biennial Italian road transportation show in Verona last month (21-24 February) didn't disappoint in terms of exhibitor or visitor numbers, and this despite the formal announcement at the start of the week of the exhibition that Italy had officially entered into recession. According to the organisers, Fiera Milan, the truck and trailer markets reportedly held up in 2018, despite slowing down in the second half of the year. Some of the trailer builders indicated their order books remained strong out to June/July with some even stating capacity was an issue! However, there was an element of cautiousness due to the economic slowdown, political uncertainty, Brexit, global trade wars and the yet to be negotiated Italian capital allowance stimulus programme. Last year, the Italian government helped stimulate vehicle replacement by allowing companies' to write down 130% of their vehicle capital purchasing costs. No such programme has yet been agreed for 2019. Key developments announced at the show follow.
