Ipswich bridge project shelved over rising costs

Plans to build a major road bridge over the River Orwell to the south of Ipswich have been halted by Suffolk County Council after it proved unfeasible to secure the necessary funding for the scheme. The Upper Orwell Crossings project was to feature a 715m bridge for motorists and active users as well as two smaller bridges serving a nearby 'Wet Dock Island' regeneration site close to Ipswich Marina.
