There is an increasing effort throughout the industry to shift focus away from roadway improvements to vehicles to investing in shared mobility and active transportation (human-powered transportation, such as walking, cycling or skateboarding). Researchers in these areas are now asking frank questions such as, "Is anyone interested in saving enormous amounts on buying and maintaining vehicles that are unused at least 90% of the time?" and "Are cities worldwide interested in saving an estimated U$5tn annually by 2050 while improving livability and increasing the likelihood of meeting climate change targets?"
