摘要

Dietary fats are important biological regulators with long-chain (LC) n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) having known beneficial effects on cardiovascular risk reduction, mainly via a trig-lyceride (TG)-lowering effect. Since dyslipidemia is a common metabolic abnormality in women with polycystic ovary syndrome and traditional lipid-lowering agents are often unsuitable, dietary supplementation with n-3 PUFAs represents an important therapeutic option. There is much evidence of its effect in lowering fasting and postprandial triglycerides in diabetic as well as normal subjects and recent evidence suggests its potential for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), particularly those with increased liver fat content. However, in addition to this, an anti-androgen effect has been suggested that may have positive implications for clinical features of hyperandrogenemia, menstrual cyclicity or fertility.
