BEEHIVE THEFT LEAVING A STING ON THE INDUSTRY

An issue that has been at the top of the apiculture radar is the disheartening increase in beehive theft. The once odd, isolated incident has transformed into a realm of suspected organised crime and huge losses for beekeepers and honey producers throughout New Zealand.Working with ApiNZ, the New Zealand Police have lifted their attention to this crime, which has devastating impacts on our industry.Apiculture New Zealand CE, Karin Kos, said "while it's a work in progress, Police are much more attentive to dealing with this crime and we've worked with them on a number of initiatives".
