Metals theft sting nets 62 arrests by Fla. police

A two-week undercover operation targeting metal thieves in Florida resulted in 62 arrests and the recovery of stolen vehicles, as well as more than a ton of metal. Sarasota County Sheriffs Office spearheaded "Operation Meltdown" with the assistance of the Sarasota Police Department, the North Port Police Department and the Manatee County Sheriffs Office. The arrests resulted from surveillance work conducted by about 30 undercover and non-uniformed police officers.
