The modified Veress needle for tension pneumothorax

In the December 2017 issue of Journal of Trauma, the article "Bigger Is Better: Comparison of Alternative Devices for Tension Hemopneumothorax and Pulseless Electrical Activity in a Yorkshire Swine Model" by Leatherman et al.claims to have tested the modified Veress needle (mVN) device. The Veress needle that the authors used by the authors in this study is not the mVN. It is actually the "enhanced peumothorax needle," sold by H&H Medical Corporation, Hayes, VA. This device utilizes the standard Veress needle, which is 2 mm in outer diameter or approximates a 14-gauge needle. The first mention of mVN is in the study by authors Lubin et al., who first used the term mVN.
