Gyrophaena transversalis Strand (Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae) in Britain

Gyrophaena transversalis Strand was added to the British list by Booth & Galsworthy (2008), on the basis of specimens caught in a flight interception trap. This was sited in a marsh area, adjoining an old flooded gravel pit, at Laleham, Middlesex (VC 21, TQ0569), between 22-25 June 2005, and subsequent dates. The two male specimens captured on this first date were exhibited at the 2007 BENHS Annual Exhibition, although the exhibition report did not mention the number or sex of the specimens exhibited. Three specimens were taken in the trap the following week, 25 June-2 July 2005, and a further four specimens were taken in traps at the same site, 19-26 July 2008, one male in a flight interception trap and three females in pitfall traps. A.C. Galsworthy also took specimens after June 2005 when he collected the trap contents.
