Simple Proofs of the Uniform Convexity of L-p and the Riesz Representation Theorem for L-p

We give elementary and self-contained proofs of the facts that the L-p space with 1 p infinity is uniformly convex and its dual space is isometrically isomorphic to Lp/p-1.
