Exporters want more, but Turkish flats hit their ceiling

Turkish exporters have continued to push higher offers for hot rolled coil after rises in deals struck with European buyers over the past four weeks. But traders say the price now being asked is possibly too high for EU customers, particularly considering recent exchange rate changes. While there are still enquiries due to ongoing concerns over availability of flats in the region following court-ordered closures at Ilva's 8.5mt/y or so flat-rolled plant in Taranto, southern Italy, enquiries are fewer than before and customers are hesitant to commit to significant volumes at relatively high prices ahead of the Christmas holidays.
