COTTON EXPORTERS HIT QUOTA CEILING IN 10 DAYS

AMID demands by the Indian textile industry to defer cotton exports by two months, cotton exporters on Sunday got 55 lakh bales (one bale=170 kg) registered for exports, thus exhausting the exportable limit set by the government within 10 days after the process began. Exports would begin on November 1 and would continue for 45 days. India is expected to produce 325 lakh bales of cotton in 2010-11 crop year. While the domestic industry would consume 266 lakh bales, the Group of Ministers recently set an exportable limit of 55 lakh bales for the current crop year.
