Sunset Commission Report Calls for Increased Government Regulation of the Veterinary Profession

Now is a critical time for the practice of veterinary medicine in the state of Texas. This is because the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners is undergoing sunset review. Sunset review is a process that each Texas state agency is required to go through every decade. The Texas Sunset Advisory Commission is the state agency charged with conducting a review of other state agencies to determine whether there is reason to continue the agency and, if so, how to make it more efficient. A bill containing the entire Veterinary Licensing Act will be drafted based on the Sunset Commission's report, and this bill must pass through the legislature.
