Abstract Asbestos in tile adhesives, plasters and fillers in buildings - problems and risks Following the installation of asbestos-containing construction products up to the end of the 1980s risks by asbestos will be retained for many decades. Even if the asbestos concentrations used in tile adhesives, plasters and fillers seem to be relatively low, there is still considerable uncertainty which health risks may emerge from working with or removing of asbestos-containing construction products and to which extent measures will be necessary to protect occupants. In this paper preliminary risk assessments are presented for an example of do-it-yourself-activities, still existing knowledge gaps are shown and aspects of an appropriate risk communication are discussed. As a result, these risk assessments do not support claims of extensive inquiries about asbestos in construction products which have been raised due to new analytical tools and the actual legal framework.
