US approval for BASF's Zidua

BASF has received US approval for its new residual maize herbicide, Zidua (Kumiai Chemical's pyroxasuifone 85%). The EPA proposed the approval of pyroxasuifone in January (Agrow No 632, p 17). Registration applications for use on soybeans and wheat were withdrawn due to data deficiencies, the EPA noted at the time. These are expected in early 2013, BASF points out. Use of pyroxasuifone on other crops, including sunflowers and peanuts, is being evaluated.
