A recent U.S. Energy InformationAdministration (EIA) report said 17 newnatural gas-fired plants will be in variousstages of development from this yearthrough 2022, with those facilitiesrepresenting about 8.5 GW of generationcapacity. These additions will represent newbuilds which is good news for the industry. This is, however, a fraction of the work to becompleted if even just to support the newtrend of higher renewable generating mix inthe plans of utilities across the US. Much ofthis work has been stalled by expected lowdemand growth and government confusionon the environmental side of the regulationequation. As we approach an election year,we expect these topics to get much lipservice and only a little actual activity. Still,we take what we can get and since therecent forecast for the price of US naturalgas has been decreasing, we say betternow than in the future when pricing may notbe as favorable.
