Nicaragua has cancelled all registrations of the organophosphate insecticides, parathion-methyl and methamidophos. The Ministry of Agriculture issued a resolution last autumn that also immediately banned the import of products that contain either of the active ingredients. Importers and suppliers are to report stock levels of methamidophos. The Ministry will verify the amounts before authorising their use until stocks are depleted. Some formulations of both ais are subject to trade restrictions under the Rotterdam Convention on prior informed consent (Agrow No 443, p 22).
