Monsanto wins GMO royalty fee action in Brazil

Monsanto has won a ruling confirming the suspension of an injunction in a Brazilian state on its rights to charge a 2% royalty fee for the replanting of its genetically modified Roundup Ready glyphosate-tolerant soybeans. The 9th Civil Chamber of the Rio Grande do Sul's Justice Tribunal confirmed this month the suspension of an earlier injunction (Agrow No 567, p 2). The ruling only covers the court's jurisdiction, the state of Rio Grande do Sul, rather than the whole country as Monsanto sought.
