In a world of growing population, urbanisation and prosperity global energy demand is increasing and with the threat of climate change we are facing a dual challenge: meeting growing demand while transiting towards low carbon economies. Society as a whole has to achieve the goal of limiting global warming below 2°C while we preserve our welfare and quality of life. We all want to have our lights on, to warm our houses in winter and cool them in summer and we also want to have the world available to us through our smartphones.
