摘要

Caroline Criado Perez’s book, Invisible Women, Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men, has earned a great deal of praise and was winner of the Royal Society Insight Investment Science Book Prize in 2019. Its dedication is, ‘for the women who persist: keep on being bloody difficult’ and the evidence presented in the book gives many reasons why they should. There are extensive references in a section entitled ‘Endnotes’; many are web addresses, although these do not include the date of access, which is usual for academic references. The book looks at what Criado Perez categorises as the ‘gender data gap’ in six sections: Daily Life, The Workplace, Design, Going to the Doctor, Public Life and When it Goes Wrong. She also points to the ‘zombie stat’: a false statistic that will not die.
