The rise of US shale oil continues to challenge Opec. A forecast record high for US oil production this year would top Saudi Arabia’s world-leading 12mn b/d capac- ity. And a rise to 13mn b/d by the end of 2020 could underpin a structural shift for the US from net oil importer to net oil exporter, the EIA predicts.
