Russia’s state-controlled Gazpromneft has significantly increased the reserves estimate for its recently discovered offshore Neptune field in Russia’s far east, underpinning its plans to become a leading Russian offshore oil producer. Russia’s state reserves commission has increased Neptune’s C1 and C2 crude resources - roughly equivalent to proven, probable and possible - to almost 416 mn t (3bn bl) following the interpretation of exploration data, up from an initial estimate of 255mn t. The rise makes the Sea of Okhotsk discovery, in the Sakhalin 3 licence area’s Ayashsky block, one of Russia’s largest in over a decade.
