Senegal and Mauritania could emerge as LNG exporters by as early as 2021, as their offshore natural gas and liquids potential draws strong interest from BP and other majors. BP is leading the development of the Greater Tortue area, which is in waters that the two countries share. Greater Tortue holds an estimated 25 trillion ft~3 (708bn m~3) of gas. Drilling started last month to determine the area's liquids potential, including at the Yakaar prospect offshore Senegal.
