The invention relates to a method and a device on ships, offshore-platforms, etc. for protecting against organism growth in complete seawater systems, operated on the basis of briefly raising the temperature of a volume of water (1) which is isolated by a mechanical closure system (4, 12). The brief temperature increase destroys the growth of organisms or their larvae without the need for toxic, environmentally damaging substances.
