Every packaging event seems to have a theme. This year was no exception, with 'sustainability' the watchword on a great number of stands, and the subject of many talks at the excellent (and free to attend) seminar stations located around the two halls in which the exhibition was situated. Last year 'compostability' was to the fore, trumping 'recyclability'. Also, as occurred last year, a small (but increasing) number of stands were exhibiting very 'non-traditional' wares, compared to what has been shown previously; last year I noted the presence of makers of safety interlocks, while this year saw robotics manufacturers (Reeco Automation) and optical test equipment specialists (Konica Minolta) among the ''odd crew''.
