Brazilian exporters set sights on lost EU beef market share

As tight supplies push up beef prices in Europe, Brazil is hoping to gradually re-establish itself as the leading beef exporter to EU markets. Since tough new traceability requirements were imposed in early 2008, Brazil's chilled and frozen beef shipments to the EU have averaged around 2 000 tonnes per month, less than a tenth of previous levels. However, since the final quarter of 2009, average monthly shipments have risen to more than 4 000 tonnes.
