EU-US representatives address TTIP farming hurdles at trade conference

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the EU and the US will not put at risk European regulatory standards on sensitive food and agriculture related topics such as genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and animal health standards, senior officials from both sides said last week.Speaking at the annual EU-US trade conference in Brussels, where stakeholders had an opportunity to have their views heard, the EU's chief negotiator Ignacio Garcia Bercero asserted that while "ambitious in traditional market access areas", any future TTIP deal would not in any way compromise regulatory standards on either side of the Atlantic.EU and US negotiators will hold a fourth round of official negotiations on March 10-14 in Brussels - with a potential TTIP expected to boost US exports of commodities such as wheat and soya to the EU, while allowing Europe to boost transatlantic sales of high-quality protected products.
