Croatia struggles to spend its pre-accession farm aid

A report by the European Court of Auditors (ECA) has concluded that Croatia has experienced difficulties in spending its pre-EU accession farm aid money from the CAP and could struggle to make best use of the financial assistance that will follow whenit becomes a full member state next year.Croatia has received more than ELLR25 million in rural aid each year since 2007, totalling ELLR184m in the period 2007-13 but the ECA found that only one-third of the ELLR51m allocated in 2007 and 2008 had been approved by May 2011, despite the fact that the assistance had to be spent by the end of last year.
