India's poultry meat exports remain small due to high production costs, insufficient marketing infrastructure and limited processed poultry production. But with consumption expected to double in less than five years, this could have to change. The country already consumes nearly all the poultrymeat it produces, and imports nothing on the grounds of biosecurity. It has had four bird flu outbreaks this year, although Indian sources say this has not resulted in significant economic or production consequences.
