摘要

Despite the rhetoric about farmland investors being 'neo-colonialists, much of the activity is domestic and regional rather than from US and European hedge and pension funds. A new World Bank study called Rising Global Interest in Farmland shows how the global land investment process is complex and multi-dimensional, rather than simply a rapacious grab by predatory outsiders, as sometimes portrayed in the media. United States' assistant secretary of state for economics, energy and business affairs Jose Fernandez believes the extent of 'land grabbing' is grossly exaggerated. "Most of the deals are done by Africans themselves. They are obscure deals between government and their cronies," he claimed.
