The grey rhebok Pelea capreolus in Sehlabathebe National Park, Lesotho

The grey rhebok Pelea capreolus occurs in montane grasslands of the greater South Africa, at an altitude ranging from 1400 to 3300 m a.s.l. (Bigalke & Bateman, 1962; Skinner & Smithers, 1990; Rowe-Rowe, 1991). In Lesotho, it is the only bovid found inreasonable numbers (Lynch, 1993), where the belt of the Afroalpine grassland bordering KwaZulu-Natal appears to be a stronghold of the population. There is a national park in this belt, which is also well stocked with this bovid. The purpose of this study was to estimate the density and population structure of the grey rhebok in this park.
