Emblica officinalis (Alma) phenolic extract was subjected to phytochemical analysis by chromatography detecting ellagic, gallic, chebulinic, chebulagic acids, kaempferol, quericitin and emblicanins. Then, effect of the extract and standard antibioticson growth of resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus spp., Escherichia coli and Bacillus spp. by disk diffusion was performed. For Emblica officinalis 10 to 100mg/ml inhibition zones for S. aureus ranged 16±0.57 to 33.3±0.3mm, Bacillus spp. 11.3±0.6to 28±0.06mm, Escherichia coli 10.6±1.2 to 22.6±1.2mm and Proteus spp. 8.2±0.1 to 20.3±0.57mm, respectively. We found E. coli resistant to ampicillin or trimethoprim but susceptible to imipenem, Proteus vulgaris resistant to clindamycin, erythromycin, vancomycin, cefotaxime and trimethoprim, Staphylococcus aureus resistant to cefotaxime, streptomycin, trimethoprim but susceptible to clindamycin and vancomycin and Bacillus Spp. resistant to streptomycin, trimethoprim and ampicillin but susceptibleto imipenem, clindamycin and erythromycin.
