Prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp. in feces of 160 domestic dogs in Baghdad, Iraq.

We report prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp in feces of 160 domestic mixed breed dogs in Baghdad, Iraq between January and August 2017. Total prevalence by microscopy for oocysts, was estimated at 6.25% and by ELISA antigen confirmed to be 13.35%. ByEliza antigen in feces, prevalence in females was 16.25%, in males 11.25%, in dogs < 6 months 17.5%, and older ones 10%, with no statistical difference between any parameter. Similarly, we found no difference in incidence during any month. Compared withprevious findings, our results suggest a high prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp. for domestic dogs in the Baghdad city.
