The Brazilian government has drawn up a proposal that it hopes will form the basis for a wide-ranging co-operation and trade agreement between the South American 'Mercosur' bloc and the EU. The proposal, approved by Brazil's national trade council, will now be submitted to the other Mercosur countries - Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay - in the hope of agreeing on a common offer for the European side. The countries are aiming to come up with a proposal for negotiations with the EU by the end of the year, Agra Europe understands. Brazilian and EU officials are both hopeful that a trade agreement can be negotiated at some point in 2014.
