摘要

The practice of medicine is comprised of formalities, but also filled with perspectives, thoughts, and feelings of patients and practitioners, regardless of the trade. Occupational therapy practitioners are encouraged to use therapeutic use of self to build rapport and provide person-centered care. This therapeutic approach requires a practitioner to use one's own personality and experiences in order to connect with patients. Although a medical doctor, Dr. John Launer's (2018) uses his compilation of essays in HOW NOT TO BE a DOCTOR and Other Essays to urge healthcare providers to consider patient experiences and perspectives in order to provide individualized and quality care.
