For a long time, additive manufacturing has been an ambivalent subject. What is hype and what can we really rely on? At the industry showcase, formnext, in November, it was apparent that interest is increasingly switching from original individual solutions towards com-mercial applications. In the industry, there is still no complete process covering all post-processing stages but awareness of the need for system integration is growing. Whereas the focus often lay only on a particular machine or material so far, the industry is now looking at how generative manufacturing can be incorporated into the whole value chain. For only by combining processes will profitability and added value be achieved.
