Soybeans, soybean meal, and soybean oil

This report covers soybeans, soybean meal and soybean oil for 2016/17 shown in Table 1. Included for comparison are data from the previous year 2015/16 shown in Table 2. The export and import data for soybeans, soybean meal, and soybean oil for 2016/17 are shown in Table 3 and 4, respectively. Soybeans remain the largest oilseed crop grown worldwide. Compared to 2015/16, the current production increased about 5 % from about 321 MMT to nearly 337 MMT. Worldwide production of all oilseeds amounts to 554 MMT. Soybean production currently stands at 336.6 MMT or nearly 61% of the total. The USA and Brazil/Argentina are the major producers of soybeans, accounting for 82% of world production. The combined production of soybeans in China and India is only 20 MMT. As expected, the USA, Brazil, and Argentina are the major exporters of soybeans Of the 140 MMT soybeans exported, these 3 countries account for 115 MMT or 82.4%. Soybean meal is a rich source of high quality protein, while the oil is a by-product of soybean crushing.
