An upcoming Colorado rulemaking session that will consider expanding a buffer zone for drilling activity around school property may provide an opportunity for compromise on the larger setback proposal the gas industry fears could be devastating. Over the summer, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) agreed to proceed with rulemaking on the question of whether state rules mandating 1,000 foot setbacks from school buildings should apply to school property lines instead.
