LNG Canada FID Ends Five-Year Drought, Reflects Buoyant Global Market

Once left for dead on British Columbia's Pacific Coast, LNG Canada has defied the naysayers and given new hope to Western Canadian gas producers. After weeks of growing anticipation, Royal Dutch Shell made a positive final investment decision (FID) on the C$40 billion (US$31 billion) Kitimat project, which will have the capacity to liquefy and ship more than 1.8 billion cubic feet per day of Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) gas to Asian markets by the mid-2020s. And it might ship more than 3.6 Bcf/d before 2030, as plans are already on the table to double capacity.
