US exports of LNG have far exceeded the low expectations that met the plan CEO Charif Souki rolled out in 2010 to turn Cheniere Energy's idled, multibillion dollar Sabine Pass LNG import terminal into an export scheme (NGW Mar. 15' 10). It took the better part of a decade before exports hit an estimated 3.1 billion cubic feet per day this year. But as US LNG exports continue a steady rise, the outsized geopolitical ramifications of even these nascent flows has only grown.
