Major Alberta Petchem Complex Will Tap Canada's Wealth of Propane

Providing a boost to the Alberta economy in general and Canadian gas producers in particular, Calgary-based Inter Pipeline plans to spend C$3.5 billion (US$2.7 billion) to build apropane-to-plastics petrochemical plant near Edmonton-the first of its kind in the country. Thanks to shale gas developments in Western Canada, Alberta is chock full of new supplies of propane, which companies such as Inter can buy relatively cheaply and convert into a higher-valued product for domestic usage or export.
