Struggling Cenovus in Talks to Unload Suffield Gas Assets in Alberta

Cenovus Energy is apparently close to selling offcore natural gas assets in Alberta to help pay for its blockbuster C$17.7 billion (US$14.3 billion) purchase of ConocoPhillips' Canadian oil sands in April-amove that proved deeply unpopular with investors and led to the resignation of CEO Brian Ferguson (NGW Apr. 10'17). According to various published reports in Canada, Cenovus is close to divesting its gas-rich Suffield properties, which produce some 26,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The asking price is said to be as much as C$600 million and the leading suitor appears to be Torxen Resources. Cenovus officials declined to comment.
