US Becomes Net Gas Exporter for First Time in Six Decades, EIA Says

Reversing a six-decade pattern, the US exported more natural gas than it imported during three of the first five months of 2017, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). In its Natural Gas Monthly report, the EIA noted that falling imports from Canada, increased pipeline exports to Mexico and the startup of LNG shipments overseas from Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana shifted the US from a net importer since the late 1950s to a net exporter in February, April and May—a trend seen as likely to continue.
