Cu/TiO2 and Ag/TiO2 photocatalysts were synthesized through a photodeposition method, for the liquid-phase degradation of H2S. The chemical state of the elements and surface morphology of the samples were characterized by UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The effective photocatalytic degradation of gaseous H2S demonstrates that Cu and Ag are present on the surface of the respective catalysts. However, the catalytic activities of Cu/TiO2 and Ag/TiO2 for degrading H2S in the liquid phase were reduced. The most likely cause is that the metals became detached from TiO2 in the liquid phase. This result is important for designing metal-loaded photocatalysts for H2S degradation in the liquid phase.
