Large dump trucks used in mines, dam construction sites, and other civil engineering jobs are subject to various loads from the road surface when they are traveling. Normally, these loads are transmitted to the chassis (frame) through the tires and suspension. With the conventional frame stress analysis, the dynamic load is measured, or it is estimated and converted to a static load and then calculated. However, with this method, the boundary conditions differ from the actual travel conditions, so the accuracy of the analysis is poor. The newly developed method includes the ADAMS of general mechanism analysis software with NAS-TRAN data for the frame and dump body. This software analyzes the stress generated by the dynamic load under the same conditions as for actural travel. By using this method, it is possible to obtain more precise results from the analysis.
