BIOFUELS SECTOR CONCERNED OVER IMPORTS

The rising biofuel mandates may prompt an increase in imports, fears the local biofuel sector. The fuel ethanol mandate is to rise to 8.0% vol. on January 1, 2018 from 4.5% in place since 2014. The local press cited official data as saying that consumption in 2015 was around 121 mln litres, while a mere 50 mln were produced. Local supplier Biofuel Energy said it may expand its corn-based plant, but the oil majors may also rely on imports.
