VIVERGO'S LOSSES ALMOST DOUBLED BEFORE SHUT-DOWN

Vivergo Fuels, the UK's biggest fuel ethanol producer by capacity, posted a pre-tax loss of GBP68.6 mln (USD1=GBP0.78) in the year to August 31, 2018, up from GBP35.9 mln the year before. Turnover remained largely flat at GBP160 mln, but cost of sales increased to GBP186 mln from GBP173 mln, mostly because of the provision it took to prepare the closure of the site. Vivergo announced to shut down its 420 mln litres per year plant in Hull permanently in September. The distillery is estimated to have contributed around GBP600 mln to the UK economy, and 900 farms across the country supplied the Saltend plant with wheat.
