THE ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE SYNDROME, 30 YEARS LATER桝 RESPONSE TO THE COMMENTARIES

We appreciate the thoughtful comments made with respect to our article [1]. In this paper we could provide only a flavour of the myriad of alcohol research advances since 1976, which we have attributed to the seminal publication by Edwards & Gross [2] on the alcohol dependence syndrome. Our aim was to stimulate discussion involving experts from different disciplines. The perspectives expressed by Drs Babor [3], Biihringer [4], Hasin [5] and Hughes [6] and Professor Dickerson [7] are wide-ranging and we can address only some key issues in reply.
