Experienced-based learning of psychodynamic interventions

The proposed change towards a university-based psychotherapy training curriculum directs special attention to the teachability of psychodynamic competencies. Specific didactical approaches may help students and candidates to make psychoanalytically based interventions accessible through experience and to thereby complement the classical triad of theory, supervision, and personal analysis. This article outlines the necessity of experiential learning before describing two related university-based course formats and includes data on the subjective competence gain of the participating students. Finally, prerequisites, possibilities, and limits of this form of experience-based teaching of psychodynamic interventions are discussed.
